1. Plan Your Outfits Early

What you wear (and what you don’t) matters. Choose and try on outfits several days before your session so you have time to adjust, swap pieces, or steam wrinkles. Feeling confident in your clothing makes a huge difference — and planning ahead keeps stress low as picture day approaches.

2. Get Everyone Well‑Rested

A tired family is a cranky family. Aim for an early bedtime the night before so everyone shows up refreshed and ready to shine. Rested kids — and adults — always photograph better.

3. Hype It Up for the Kids

Set the tone by making the session sound fun. Tell your child they’re meeting a new friend (your photographer), talk about the cool camera and lights, or compare it to how famous people do photoshoots. The more excited they are, the smoother things go.

4. Bring a Few Happy Helpers

Snacks, a favorite toy, a blanket, a noisemaker — anything comforting or motivating is fair game. These can be used as rewards or simply to help capture that perfect smile.

Bonus: research shows this sometimes works on spouses too.

5. Arrive with Full Bellies

This is a big one. Hungry kids (or partners… or you) can derail a mini‑session fast. Eat before you get dressed to keep outfits clean and moods happy. A fed family is a cooperative family.

6. Arrive Early — Really Early

Mini‑sessions run back‑to‑back, so there’s no wiggle room. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early so you’re ready to go when it’s your turn. This keeps everything running smoothly and ensures you get the most out of your session time.
